Everything You Need to Know

Greetings, farmers market fans,

Fresh Times, your guide to everything Philly-area farmers markets, has been on a winter hiatus ... until now: As the COVID-19 crisis unfolds across the country, we know that our markets remain a critical point of access for healthy, fresh, affordable food. With this in mind, The Food Trust has decided to keep our three year-round farmers markets OPEN to the public. (You can read more about this decision in our press release.)

We have enacted a number of precautions at market to keep shoppers, farmers and staff safe — everything from installing hand-washing stations to instituting a "point, don't touch" policy at produce stands. (Scroll down to read more.)

In addition, we are remaining agile, making adjustments and improvements as needed to ensure we can continue to safely serve the community, so this is your source for weekly news about what's happening at your local market. (We are also active on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, so be sure to follow us there for frequent updates.)

We hope you'll come by this weekend to stock up on nourishing foods while supporting your local farmers!

See you at market,

The Food Trust Farmers Market Team

New Procedures at Headhouse

Starting Sunday, seniors and immunocompromised shoppers may shop at Headhouse Farmers Market starting at 9:30 a.m., to avoid crowds. Headhouse opens to the public at 10 a.m.

In addition, the market will now have only one entrance (Lombard Street side), and we are limiting the number of shoppers allowed in the Shambles at any given time. We encourage customers to pre-order when possible.

Safety Precautions at Market

The following measures are being taken to ensure the safety of our customers, farmers and staff:

  • Vendor tables are spaced out at least 6 feet from one another
  • Hand-washing stations are placed throughout each market, and customers are asked to wash hands upon entry
  • Food sampling is not permitted
  • Only farmers touch items for sale (customers may point to what they intend to purchase)
  • Farmers and market staff wear gloves at all times, changing those gloves frequently, and payment and produce are handled by different individuals when possible
  • Some farmers offer pre-bagged produce options (e.g., a 3-pound bag of greens, root vegetables, apples and cider)
  • Market staff and volunteers are on hand to mitigate crowd control by helping customers to form lines with space in between each person
  • Signs are posted to remind customers about CDC recommendations and the above modifications to market operations
